If you’ve ever wondered what’s the difference between shamanism and other forms of energy healing, that’s a great question! There are many different forms of energy healing such as meditation, breathwork, reiki and tai chi, for example, that can assist in strengthening and healing our energy body and they often complement each other.
Most practices concentrate on the 7 main chakras or energy centres of the body (root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, brow and crown) and aim to keep them clear, centred and balanced. These energy centres act as a gateway to receive, transmit and store energetic information, and when they are working in the right way, we are able to operate in harmony with our environment in the present moment.
Shamanic healing attends to the energy centres of the body in a similar way, however, it can also address issues that have affected our energy body on a much deeper level. Trauma that has happened in the past, patterns that appear throughout our ancestral lines or even issues we’re facing in the spaces we inhabit, can be cleared and healed with shamanic techniques that travel back to the source of an issue and address the root cause. This means that the benefits are more likely to be permanent.
There are some parallels with hypnotherapy and shamanism because they both work with the limbic system. Some hypnotherapists do regressional work where they take you back to the source of a problem and then replace limiting beliefs in your subconscious mind, but they don’t work in the spirit world so any limiting beliefs will be based on their perception of what you need rather than channelled information from spirit.
Everyone is on a different path to healing and different methods will work for different people so it’s important to do your research and understand what you want to achieve. If you want more information on a specific topic, take a look at my glossary of spiritual terms.
